On this date 71 years ago HMS/M Unbeaten sailed from Portsmouth towards the Mediterranean. As Unbeaten was slipped from Fort Blockhouse on the 12th of April 1941, she was not only leaving the 5th Submarine Flotilla to Join the 10th Flotilla, but she also left the families of her crew behind to carry on their lives in war torn Britain. Unbeaten had to transit across the Bay of Biscay. The next time she would come this way would be exactly a year later. Her first stop would be Gibraltar where she would top up with fuel and stores, before entering the Mediterranean. Unbeaten would then and set a course for the besieged small island of Malta.
