After leaving the Gibraltar behind her, N93 was now on war patrol footing, only surfacing at night to pick up wireless traffic (W/T) and charge her batteries. She would remain submerged during the daylight hours. The transit to Malta saw Unbeaten pass along the coast of Algeria to the south of Sardinia, and then patrol between the Tyrrhenian and Mediterranean Seas off Sicily. Several other British submarines were also operating in these areas. HMS/M Upholder, which was among the first of the U-Class submarines to reach Malta, was in the vicinity having arrived at the island on the 10th of January 1941. By the time Unbeaten was on station off Sicily Upholder was already embarked on her third operational patrol out of the besieged Maltese island. Three U-Class submarines were tasked to rendezvous at Malta on the 3rd of May 1941. Unbeaten was one of these submarines. However, only two would eventually arrive. One submarine and her crew would be lost forever.
